21 Jul 2007 - The Littleport Show 2007 - Chairman's Remarks
21st July 2007 - The Littleport Show 2007
CHAIRMANS REMARKS
Here we are again in 2007, and here I am again, cajoled once more into leading this small but happy bunch of volunteers. Alright I didn't take much persuading, especially when they talk so fancy to me.
2006 you may have noticed was our gap year, brought about by a dwindling committee, we simply did not have the manpower to successfully stage a full blown show, and a half hearted effort just didn't seem right. We lost members for many reasons, retirement after many years' service, people moving away, family or work commitments, you name it and we were effected by it.
Talking of losing committee members I feel I should express our sorrow at the recent death or Ron Barber, who was a founder member of the Littleport Show and was a pillar of the community. Ron carried the microphone and megaphone around the streets of Littleport come rain or shine, for any organisation needing publicity, and had done so ever since our dear lord was in short trousers. He will, I am sure, be sadly missed.
Harping back to my small but perfectly formed volunteer committee, I must thank them for the tremendous amount of man hours and hard work they have put into making this years show happen once again. They have done a sterling job, however, I am sure they would join with me in inviting any of you readers to come and join us. If you enjoy the Show and would like to get involved we meet every 2 nd Wednesday, in Littleport Fire station at 8.00pm, we are a happy informal bunch, let's face it, its voluntary it has to be fun.
I must also thank our sponsors, and all the organisations that just come out of the fabric of the village the week before the Show, and help in many varied ways, we couldn't do it without you. You all know who you are, a very big thank you. Thanks must also go to our landlords, J.H Martin & Sons for the continued use of the Highfield showground, a truly excellent setting for such an event.
It just leaves me to thank you all for attending and supporting us and ultimately supporting the community projects that will benefit from today's festivities. It's lovely to see you all and I hope you all enjoy your day with the Littleport Show.
